Eight ads for MakeRoll. Two ways into each story.

MakeRoll pointed its own agent pipeline at itself. Four stories got shot once as a shared body, then each got two different 1.5 s openers, so every idea exists as an A/B pair. All eight play here, with the prompts, the gate verdicts and two rejects.

A MakeRoll production study of eight AI UGC ads that MakeRoll made to promote itself. Every person in these ads is an AI-generated fictional character, not a real MakeRoll member, customer or testimonial. What they say about MakeRoll is a scripted line. The ads were made on 24 Sep 2026, before MakeRoll’s first weekly brief, so no member used a brief to make them. They carry no burned-in AI label. The owner decided that, and any upload should switch on the platform’s AI-content label. The golf course, the supercar, the beach and the yacht are generated settings, not outcomes. MakeRoll makes no passive-income pitch. No A/B test has been run, and no audience, view or sign-up data exists for these ads. None of them has run as paid media, and this page doesn’t predict how they’d do. Every number on this page comes from the run’s ledgers, gate files and review notes.

01 / The films

Four stories. Two ways in.

Each story was shot once. Only the opener changes between hook A and hook B, so any difference you feel between the two cuts comes from the first 1.5 s. Press play for sound. Captions are on by default, and starting one film pauses the rest.

How the pairs work

Two openers, spliced onto one body.

Every hook is its own silent 4 s clip, trimmed to about 1.5 s. The body is one 8 s clip with speech, followed by a push-in on a still and a 2 s end card. So a second opener costs one short clip, not a second ad, and the only thing that differs between A and B is the first second and a half.

02 / The hook design

Every A contradicts. Every B opens a loop.

The concept writers were asked for two openers per story, each with a named mechanism. All four A hooks state something that clashes with the picture. All four B hooks promise a payoff the body then delivers. The body and the end card stay fixed, so the opener is the only thing being tested.

Each concept has two hooks on one shared body. Only the first 1.5 to 1.6 seconds differ, so a future test could isolate the hook. No A/B test has been run, so neither hook has a result. The hook scores are internal creative scores, not predictions.

  • 0results exist to pick a winner

None of the eight has run, so nobody knows yet which opener holds attention better. The pairs are built so that a platform split test can answer it, with the body held constant.

  • 6 vs 6paid hook takes, A against B

Across the four stories the A openers took 6 paid takes and the B openers 6. Two hooks on each side needed a retake, and the one Stage 3 regen was a B.

  • 2 of 8hooks the visual gate sent back

Both were B openers. The golf swing broke physics and the supercar hook drifted off the character lock. Both bodies passed untouched, so the fixes only touched the first 1.5 s.

03 / Brief and product truth

The rulebook came first. Then the cameras.

Before any concept existed, an agent scraped makeroll.com and wrote a product-truth file. It pins what MakeRoll is, who it’s for and what an ad may and may not say. Every script, still and caption below was checked against it.

MakeRoll is a weekly AI video build room where you bring one rough idea and turn it into a finished short video with a weekly brief, exact model and prompt recipes, and human critique.

The one-liner the agents worked from, written from makeroll.com as scraped on 24 Sep 2026. Confidence marked high, because it paraphrases the site’s own hero copy.

The transformation every concept had to dramatise, in the site’s words.

One idea in. A finished video is the goal.

Six rules the scripts had to pass

  • Two prices, nothing else

The only dollar amounts allowed in ad copy were $9.99 a week and $199 once. None of the eight uses a price at all. The beach concept dropped its price card because the footnote about paying your own generation costs wouldn’t fit.

  • No reach or money promises

Nothing about play counts, followers or going big, and nothing about getting paid or landing work. The site itself refuses to promise those.

  • She builds it, the app doesn’t

MakeRoll is a build room, not a video generator. So every script keeps the character as the builder, with lines like “MakeRoll brief, my prompts”, and never says the product made the video.

  • No borrowed brands

No logos on cars, clothes, boats, clubs or phones, and no third-party brand named. The supercar’s script badges were painted out locally before any clip was paid for.

  • No burned-in AI label, by owner decision

The concept writers proposed an on-screen “Original AI character, not a testimonial” line. The owner ruled it out for the ads, so disclosure goes through the platform’s AI-content toggle at upload and sits next to every player on this page.

  • Lifetime only with its qualifier

If the word appears it means the lifetime of the MakeRoll core service, at least 24 months. The ads don’t use it.

What the trend pull said

Public TikTok search statistics for other creators’ videos, sampled 24 Sep 2026. They’re not results for these ads.

Five TikTok keyword searches, 20 videos each, pulled on 24 Sep 2026, 5 calls in all. Four search terms match the settings and one tests the product angle. Rates are pooled across each result set. The results are relevance-ranked, so they’re a sample of what TikTok surfaces, not a random one. The save rates pushed two concepts toward a savable checklist and a copyable format.

How four got picked from twelve

Two generator agents wrote six concepts each. The orchestrator scored all twelve, since no generator scored its own. The advance rule wanted one story per setting and one per archetype, and it brute-forced every legal set for the highest total. The winning set scored 153 of 200, and the scoring file lists the runners-up at 147, 147 and 146. The single top scorer, b5 at 40, didn’t make it. It’s a supercar story with a deadpan voice, so it collided with a4 on setting and a6 on archetype, and every legal set holding it scored lower.

Ten steps. Three can say no.

The run started at 09:24 local time on 24 Sep 2026 and the last gate closed at 10:56. The four stories were produced by four agents in parallel, each under its own spend cap. Cheap checks sit in front of expensive ones.

The two rejects, and how each was fixed

Stage 3 could return a video once. A local fix came first, meaning edit windows, sticker timing or text. A paid fix was allowed only if it fit under the story’s remaining cap. A video that failed twice would have shipped with a failed tag. Neither needed it. One caveat. After the verdicts, the assembler was patched and all eight cuts were rebuilt between 11:07 and 11:12 from the same edit windows. The measured gate re-ran on those exact files and scored 100.0 each, but nobody re-watched them for a fresh visual verdict.

Eight frames across the shipped golf hook B cut, AI-generated
The shipped hook B cut, eight frames at even intervals. No reject frame exists, because the fix was only a new edit window.
  1. The edit window moved from 0.10 to 1.60 s of the clip to 0.07 to 2.50 s, with 0.43 to 1.33 s cut out.
  2. That keeps 0.37 s of the iron at address, then jump-cuts to the ball already in the air with a dust puff at the tee.
  3. The iron stays an iron for all 46 frames, and all four reject-level frames are gone. The hook trades some stop-power for clean physics.

Seven stills and five clips that never shipped

Catching a bad still before its clip was paid for was the whole point of looking. Every paid take was kept in a _takes/ folder, so these are the real files, cut down for the web.

What the reviewers found in the tools

None of these rejected a film. They’re bugs in the shared assembly and review scripts, logged by the production agents, the Stage 3 reviewer and the evidence check behind this page.

  • 6 in 30frames repeated every second

Every Veo clip comes out at 24 fps and the cuts run at 30 fps, so the assembler repeats every fifth frame. Frame-difference scans find a near-identical pair every 5 frames in every hook and body. It’s a small judder, and no gate measures it yet.

  • 44 of 45frames in one hook, before the fix

Cutting 24 fps sources to 30 fps could drop a frame per segment, which put the yacht hook B picture 33 ms ahead of its sound. After Stage 3 the assembler was patched to pad and count frames exactly, the gate gained an A/V length check, and all eight cuts were rebuilt. They pass it.

  • 0.0 swhere a punchline leaked

With no ambient bed set, a silent hook borrowed the tail of the speech clip. So the first supercar build whispered its own “had five wheels” under the opener. The fix builds the bed from the clip’s longest stretch without speech.

  • 1 fileoverwritten by a one-shot transcribe

Transcribing a single shot rewrote the whole transcript gate file with that one row, which would fail the check that every spoken shot says its line. It now merges rows. Two more small ones are still open, a dropped reference image on the golf hook B still and a doubled full stop in three motion prompts.

Character lock, Mei, verbatim
Mei Takahashi, a 30-year-old Japanese woman with a narrow heart-shaped face, calm half-lidded dark eyes, straight fine brows, fair skin with a matte finish and a faint smirk that lifts one corner of her mouth; a chin-length blunt black bob with straight-across bangs just above the brows; wearing a cream cable-knit sweater vest over a white short-sleeve collared polo, high-waisted navy pleated tailored trousers, a white cotton visor, a single white leather golf glove on her left hand, small silver huggie earrings and white leather low sneakers; no logos, no text, no visible brand marks on clothing, clubs, balls or flag.

Voice direction, a soft, even female voice speaking English with a Tokyo international-school accent, understated and deadpan, with a half-beat pause before the punchline.

Composition: her face is in the upper-middle of the frame with her eyes at about 35 percent from the top and clear open sky above her head; the left side of the frame between 42 and 62 percent of the height shows only smooth car bodywork or soft background, no hands and no faces there; nothing important in the bottom third of the frame. Character lock, Kirana, verbatim
Kirana Wijaya, a 31-year-old Javanese Indonesian woman with a long oval face, high cheekbones, steady dark-brown eyes under straight thick brows, warm brown skin with a satin finish and terracotta lips set in a flat, unimpressed line; thick black hair in a low loose braid over her right shoulder with a few face-framing wisps; wearing an oatmeal fine-knit two-piece set (a relaxed short-sleeve knit polo top and matching straight-leg knit trousers), a wide-brim natural straw hat, oversized square black sunglasses, a slim gold cuff and tan leather slide sandals; no logos, no text, no visible brand marks.

Voice direction, Measured, even-paced English with a light Jakarta accent; completely flat delivery, and the flatness is the flex..

What ships around it

  • Sticker

The site screenshot sticker, “MAKE AI VIDEOS THEY CAN’T SKIP”, with a makeroll.com label. It lands at 1.8 s and holds 2.6 s.

  • End card

MAKE/ROLL, makeroll.com, “Give yours an ending.”. It holds 2 s over a blur of the cut’s own first frame, so the loop back to the hook stays clean.

  • Share idea, from the concept file

relatable-tag: everyone who makes things knows someone sitting on a folder of unfinished drafts; 'this is you' is an easy tag.

  • AI label

None burned in, by owner decision. The disclosure sits beside every player on this page, and the platform toggle carries it at upload.

The one paid retake

hB was re-shot once, same still and seed 612. Take 1 was an almost static blink with a stop-power self-score of 4. The retake folds her arms and lifts her chin inside the first second, and scored 7. The smile in s1 would have been the better fix, but a body retake didn’t fit under the cap.

Kirana Wijaya, a 31-year-old Javanese Indonesian woman with a long oval face, high cheekbones, steady dark-brown eyes under straight thick brows, warm brown skin with a satin finish and terracotta lips set in a flat, unimpressed line; thick black hair in a low loose braid over her right shoulder with a few face-framing wisps; wearing an oatmeal fine-knit two-piece set (a relaxed short-sleeve knit polo top and matching straight-leg knit trousers), a wide-brim natural straw hat, oversized square black sunglasses, a slim gold cuff and tan leather slide sandals; no logos, no text, no visible brand marks. stands at the waterline on an empty white-sand beach, slightly right of centre, facing the camera in a waist-up medium shot held at eye level like a friend filming her on a phone. Her oversized square black sunglasses are hooked into the open placket of her knit polo top; her steady dark-brown eyes look straight into the lens, expression flat and unimpressed, mouth relaxed and closed in a flat line (not pursed). The top 28% of the frame is empty pale sky above her hat; her eyes are at about 40% of the frame height. The left side of the frame beside her shoulder and arm is only calm turquoise sea and sand, nothing else. Only one person in the image; do not paste, overlay or repeat the reference portrait anywhere. Bright soft late-afternoon sun from camera left, warm but not orange, gentle shadows, fine white sand, calm clear turquoise water, pale blue sky, an empty quiet island beach. Use the reference image(s) for identity: the same person(s) with an identical face, hair, skin tone and outfit. Do not copy the reference framing or background unless the scene matches.

Static handheld phone framing, barely moving. Her sunglasses stay hooked into the collar of her knit polo. She looks straight into the lens and speaks in one continuous take, face almost motionless, the hat brim lifting slightly in the breeze; on the very last word she lifts one eyebrow a tiny amount, in Measured, even-paced English with a light Jakarta accent; completely flat delivery, and the flatness is the flex.: "Thirty-seven drafts on my laptop, zero finished. Then one MakeRoll brief. This beach is thirty-eight. It has an ending." Then she stays silent and still, looking at the lens. Soft surf and light wind only. Natural lip sync, clear dialogue. Original ambient sound only. No background music. No subtitles, no captions, no on-screen text, no logos.

What ships around it

  • Sticker

The site screenshot sticker, “MAKE AI VIDEOS THEY CAN’T SKIP”, with a makeroll.com label. It lands at 1.8 s and holds 2.6 s.

  • End card

MAKE/ROLL, makeroll.com, “Finish one this week.”. It holds 2 s over a blur of the cut’s own first frame, so the loop back to the hook stays clean.

  • Share idea, from the concept file

aspiration-save: the four-step weekly routine builds on screen as she counts it, a checklist worth saving; the friend screenshotting it models the save.

  • AI label

None burned in, by owner decision. The disclosure sits beside every player on this page, and the platform toggle carries it at upload.

The one paid retake

The body s1 was re-shot once, seed 63 to 64. Her finger count is the product beat and take 1 never reached a clean three. Take 2 counts one, two, three, four in order, and still fits under the cap.

08 / Disclosure

What this page won’t claim.

Five characters appear in these ads and none of them exist. Here’s the rest of the fine print, in plain words.

Fictional people

Mei, Linh, Kirana, Nicha and Nicha’s friend are AI-generated fictional characters. Gemini 3 Pro Image drew them from text-only lock paragraphs and Veo 3.1 Fast animated them. Nobody was filmed, and the voices are the model’s own generated speech.

Scripted claims

When a character credits MakeRoll for a car, a beach scene or a hole in one, that’s a scripted line in a fictional story. The ads were made on 24 Sep 2026, before MakeRoll’s first weekly brief, so no member used a brief to make them. MakeRoll is a build room, and members make their own videos.

No results to report

These ads haven’t run as paid media. No audience, click or sales data exists, and nobody knows yet which hook works better. The only scores here are an internal measured gate and a visual review.

Label outside the frame

The owner chose not to burn an AI label into these ads. So this page carries the disclosure next to every player, and any real upload needs the platform’s AI-content toggle switched on.

Own brand, own rules

These are MakeRoll’s ads about MakeRoll. The only prices the claims rules allowed are $9.99 a week and $199 once, and none of the eight states a price. Members pay their own AI generation and tool costs.

Included with Lifetime

Get the pipeline kit with Lifetime.

Also included with Lifetime, separate from the core service, is a personal licence to the MakeRoll UGC pipeline kit. After payment the bot sends your member key, and your AI agent or one installer sets the kit up. You run ./ugc run on your own Mac with your own treg.to account, which pays the AI costs. The kit is the animated-story version of the pipeline. The photoreal UGC ads in MakeRoll's case studies came from a separate ad workflow that isn't part of the kit. The setup guide, system requirements and licence are on makeroll.com/ugc-pipeline/. The kit is final once delivered, as the refund policy explains. Setup help from Michael for your own site is an optional extra, on request. Nothing about results is promised, and that includes views, sales and bookings.

$9.99 a week until you cancel, or $199 once (lifetime of the MakeRoll core service, at least 24 months). Tax included where applicable. AI tool costs are separate.
